Which license do I need?
LiteSpeed licenses are sized by the number of domains, your server's memory and the number of worker processes.
Your own websites
Hosting up to 5 domains of your own? Choose Site Owner for a server with up to 8 GB of RAM, or Site Owner Plus for a bigger server.
Hosting for clients
Selling hosting or running many sites? Web Host Lite covers unlimited domains on a server with up to 8 GB of RAM, and Web Host Essential has no memory limit.
Large, busy servers
Web Host Professional runs 2 worker processes and Web Host Enterprise runs 4, so LiteSpeed can use more CPU cores when traffic is heavy.
If a server hosts more domains than its license allows, LiteSpeed stops serving the extra sites, and on control panel servers it switches back to Apache. Choose a license with room to grow.
Works with your control panel
LiteSpeed fits into the panel you already use, or runs on its own.
- cPanel & WHM
- Plesk
- DirectAdmin
- CyberPanel
- No control panel
How it works
From order to LiteSpeed in four steps.
-
1
Choose a license
Pick the license that fits your server and complete checkout.
-
2
Get your serial number
Your serial number appears on the service page in your client area once the order is set up.
-
3
Install LiteSpeed
Install LiteSpeed Web Server on your server with root access, using the plugin or installer for your control panel.
-
4
Switch from Apache
Switch your sites to LiteSpeed. Your Apache configuration and .htaccess rules keep working.
Why server owners choose LiteSpeed
Faster sites on the same hardware, without rebuilding your setup.
Drop-in Apache replacement
LiteSpeed reads your Apache configuration and .htaccess files, including mod_rewrite rules, so your sites keep working after the switch.
LSCache built in
A page cache inside the web server, with free plugins for WordPress, Joomla, Drupal, OpenCart, PrestaShop and more.
Event-driven design
Each worker handles many connections at once, so LiteSpeed uses less memory than starting a new process for every visitor.
HTTP/2 and HTTP/3
Support for the newest web protocols, for faster page loads on mobile and long-distance connections.
PHP with LSAPI
LiteSpeed's own PHP handler, made to run PHP efficiently alongside the web server.
ModSecurity rules
Keep using your ModSecurity rule sets, such as the OWASP Core Rule Set, to block attacks on your sites.

LiteSpeed License Questions
- What is LiteSpeed Web Server Enterprise?
LiteSpeed Web Server Enterprise is a commercial web server made by LiteSpeed Technologies. It replaces Apache on your server, reads the same configuration and .htaccess files, and adds LSCache, a page cache built into the server. You install it on your own VPS or dedicated server.
- What is the difference between OpenLiteSpeed and LiteSpeed Enterprise?
OpenLiteSpeed is the free, open-source edition. It uses its own configuration and is usually set up from scratch. LiteSpeed Enterprise is a drop-in replacement for Apache: it reads your Apache configuration and .htaccess files, and it has plugins for cPanel, Plesk and DirectAdmin, so you can switch an existing server over.
- Which license do I need?
It depends on how many domains you host and how big your server is. Site Owner licenses cover up to 5 domains, and the Web Host licenses cover unlimited domains. Lite licenses are for servers with up to 8 GB of RAM. For servers with many CPU cores and heavy traffic, Web Host Professional and Web Host Enterprise run more worker processes. Each plan above lists its limits.
- What is a worker process?
A worker is a LiteSpeed server process. Each worker can use one CPU core, so a license with more workers lets LiteSpeed use more of a server with many cores. One worker is plenty for most servers.
- What happens if I host more domains than my license allows?
LiteSpeed stops serving the domains above the limit, and on servers with a control panel it switches back to Apache. To avoid this, choose a license with room for the sites you plan to add, or upgrade before you reach the limit.
- How do I install LiteSpeed on my server?
You need root access to your server. On cPanel, install the LiteSpeed plugin for WHM and enter your serial number. On Plesk, DirectAdmin and CyberPanel, use LiteSpeed's installer or the panel's LiteSpeed option. If you get stuck, open a support ticket and we'll point you to the right guide.
- Can I move my license to a new server?
Yes. Contact our support team and we will release your license. You can then register the same serial number on your new server.
- Can I upgrade my license later?
Yes. Open the license in your client area and choose the upgrade option, or contact our support team. Your serial number stays the same, so there is nothing to reinstall.
- Do I need a VPS or dedicated server?
Yes. A license is for a server you control with root access. If you don't have one yet, see our VPS servers and dedicated servers, or choose LiteSpeed Hosting, where we run the server for you.
