Why a free email address holds you back
Your email address is often the first thing a new client sees. Here's what a free one says about you.
Clients judge the address
An address like amara.designs2024@ on a free service can feel temporary. hello@amaradesigns.com tells clients you're established and here to stay.
You don't own it
A free provider sets the rules for your account. With your own domain, your address stays yours, even if you change email provider later.
It doesn't match your brand
When your email, website and business cards share one name, clients remember you, and your messages are easier to recognise in a busy inbox.

Built for the way you already work
No new habits to learn. Your business email fits into your day from the first message.
- Phone, laptop or browser. Use webmail anywhere, or add your address to the mail app on your phone and computer.
- Calendar and contacts on selected plans, so meetings and clients stay in one place.
- Less junk to sort. Spam and viruses are filtered out before they reach you.
Small team? Give everyone their own address
Sharing one password between three people gets messy fast. Separate mailboxes keep things clear.
- One mailbox per person, like tunde@ and sade@, so everyone has their own inbox and sent mail.
- Addresses for each job, such as hello@ for new enquiries and accounts@ for invoices.
- Pay only for what you use. Add a mailbox when someone joins, and choose a bigger one for whoever needs the space.
Tips for choosing your email address
A good address is easy to say on the phone and hard to get wrong.
Keep it short
Your first name or a simple word like hello@ is quicker to type and harder to misspell.
Skip numbers and dots
Addresses like a.b.designs22@ are hard to read out loud and easy to get wrong.
Use role addresses
hello@ and accounts@ can stay the same even when the person answering them changes.
Match your website
Use the same domain as your website, so clients can find you from either one.

Questions from freelancers and small teams
- Do I need a website to have email on my own domain?
No. You only need a domain name. Many freelancers start with email and add a website later, using the same domain for both.
- Can I keep my old free email address?
Yes. Keep it running while you move over, and turn on forwarding in your old account so nothing gets missed. Add your new address to your website, invoices and email signature, and contacts will switch over naturally.
- Will it work on my phone?
Yes. You can add your address to the mail app on iPhone or Android, to Outlook or Apple Mail on your computer, or use webmail in any browser. Our knowledgebase has step-by-step guides.
- I already have a domain with another company. Can I still use your email?
Yes. You keep your domain where it is and update a few DNS records so mail goes to your new mailboxes. We'll tell you exactly which records to change, or you can transfer the domain to us to keep everything in one place.
- How many addresses do I get?
Each plan is one mailbox with the storage shown above. Add a mailbox for each person or role you need, and mix plan sizes, for example a bigger mailbox for yourself and a smaller one for a part-time assistant.
- What if my team grows?
Add more mailboxes whenever you need them, or upgrade a mailbox to a bigger plan from your client area. For teams that need larger mailboxes and email archiving, see email for growing companies.
